Prague

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and it’s the biggest Czech city. It is the most important political, economic and cultural centre of our country and residence of our President and the Czech Government.

It lies in “the hearth of Europe” on both banks of the river Vltava. It covers an area of about 500 square kilometers and it has 1.5 mil. Inhabitants.

In the area before the Prague they were for example Celtic or German tribes.
The headstone for Prague castle was laid in 10th century. In the 14th century the most famous Czech king Charles IV established an Archbishop and founded the Charles University. During his reign the town grew and became the centre of the country.  K. Charles founded New Town and promoted construction of the Charles Bridge (because of Judita´s bridge was torn down by a flood) and St. Vitus Cathedral. In 1918 Prague became the capital of the Independent Czechoslovakia. When, in 1993 the former federal CSL. split into independent states, Prague became the capital of the Cz. Republic.
The Grand opening of Metro was in 1974 lane C. The last station was opened in 2015 that was Hospital Motol.

  1. (Prague) is full of outstanding historical monument. That´s why they call her “a hundred-tower mother of towns”. Number one is P. Castle. It was residence of Cz kings and is now a seat of the president. We can find here gothic, renaissance and baroque houses and palaces with gardens.

Prague monuments

St. Vitus Cathedral is the biggest spiritual symbol of our country. It was completed in 1929 nearly 6 hundred years after its founding by Charles IV. (Coronation for Cz. Kings)

Charles Bridge is the most popular touristic attraction and the oldest bridge in P.. Charles Bridge connects the Lesser Town with the Old Town. It is decorated with 30 statues in baroque style.

The Old Town Square is the center of the historical P.. It is well known for astronomical clock with twelve apostles, they are too many hotels and restaurants.

The Lesser town is one of the most beautiful parts of P.. It is oldest part of the town. When we go downhill from the Prague Castle to the Charles Bridge, we can go through Neruda street, where one of the biggest Cz writers Jan Neruda was born.

Wenceslas square is a commercial centre of P.. It is known for its statue of St. Wenceslas on a horse in the upper part of the square. There are many shops, restaurants, fast foods, cafeterias and hotels. On the top of the square there is the National Museum.

Another monument that shouldn´t be forgotten is the Vyšehrad Castle. It is the oldest castle in P. and another seat of the kings

Although the centre of Prague is not big, it is full of interesting places and always full of tourists. They can find here many monuments of various styles, nice pubs and restaurants and many shops.

Prague Castle – It´s the biggest middle age complex in Europe and seat of the kings. Now there is president Miloš Zeman.

Karlštejn – Built by Charles IV in 14th century. The last treatment was in 19th century.

Municipal house is Art Nouveau building (secese).  It was decorated by famous artists.

Charles University – It was founded in 1348 by Charles IV. One of the most ancient universities of Europe.

Fun – Le Valmont belongs to the top of dance clubs in the Prague. That club won in 2016 “the best club” in contest Czech Bar Awards 2016.

  • Rocking pub – Is mostly for rock and metal fans. You can go there and take a good beer and listen to good music.
  • Storm – This club belongs to the biggest clubs in Prague, but it´s just for concerts. (rap…)
